Sony Ericsson brings six new handsets to India

Sony Ericsson doffed the silk off several new handsets at a press event held today in Mumbai, India. The company unveiled Xperia X8, the Greenheart Cedar and Aspen along with Yendo, Spiro and Zylo Walkman series devices for the Indian mobile market. Additionally, it has enunciated software upgrades for the Xperia Series including a step up to the Android 2.1 platform as well as the ability to use HD video functionality for devices other than DLNA connectivity. Sony Ericsson is also launching a DLNA dongler created to support TV sets which can access DLNA.

Sporting a 3.2MP camera, the Xperia X8 operates on the Android platform and is a 3G-ready device. It runs on a UI similar to that of X10 mini, built with the four corner architecture. This architecture is fashioned in such a way that it allows fast access to applications. The infinite button filters images and communications according to contacts. The Timescape blends in Facebook, Twitter, e-mails and SMS messages in one simple window.

The Greenheart Aspen and Cedar are 3G HSPA capable and feature Widget Manager 2.0. Loaded with a 2.4” touchscreen and a full QWERTY keypad, the Aspen is runs on the Windows Mobile 6.5.3. It is also fitted with a 3.2MP camera and the SlideView functionality. This function endows owners with the ability to access often used apps, Facebook, Google Maps, CNN, PlayNow, a-GPS and a media browser pretty fast. It boasts of empowering users with web backup and a simplified phonebook transfer.

On the other hand, the Spiro and Zylo Walkman phones are adorned with dedicated TrackID buttons. They also provide access to SNS like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace coupled with the signature Walkman player. The Spiro sports a 2MP camera and FM radio. With a spaced out keypad, users can effortlessly type messages. The Zylo equips a 3.2MP camera and renders support to FLAC audio files. Mobile aficionados can enhance their web browsing and YouTube video viewing experience with the 2.6” display.

The touchscreen entrant of the Walkman series is entitled the Yendo. Outfitted with a 2.6” screen and a 3.5mm stereo jack, the device uses a four corner interface and is Bluetooth enabled. Loaded with direct text capabilities for Twitter and Facebook, the handset features MediaGo, TrackID and PlayNow. The enticing device comes packed with ten changeable color jackets.

The Xperia X8 might retail for anything between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 16,000, and will hit the streets by the end of next month or early October. The Greenheart Aspen is out in the market for Rs.16,754 and the Cedar is expected to be priced around Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 7,000 and slated for a release in October. The Zylo is also available now for Rs. 9,000. The Yendo might carry a retail tag ranging from R.s 8,000 to Rs. 9,000 and is anticipated to be launched in India towards the end of September.
