Smartphones will be the magic wand that rolls Sphero ball

Those who’re addicted to Teeter on their Android phones will probably be delighted to see similar games come to life in the real world. The Orbotix blog has displayed a render of a robotic ball called Sphero which needs to be controlled by a smartphone.

For mobile game developers, the Sphero offers a wholly new game platform which transforms a smartphone into a robot controller. The developers have mentioned that the physically present ball turns into the object in a game on iOS or Android handsets.

It’s not just meant for game creators, application developers can also look towards the Sphero for interesting app ideas. The company’s first app for the ball is Sumo, while others like Office Golf, Cat App and Ambient Data are just some of the ideas put out for developer use.

Here’s to hoping that mobile application and game developers will take the hint and head for Orbotix’s open source API.
