Smartphone Data Plans compulsory through AT&T from September 6?

AT&T logo AT&T seems to have made it mandatory for all smartphone users to sign up for the smartphone data plan. The condition will apparently be applicable only to customers who purchase a new smartphone post September 6, 2009.

So this means that those who have purchased a smartphone prior this date won’t be a part of any compulsory data plan for now. According to the Boy Genius Report, those users cannot be a part of the current media Net plan if they use a feature phone with a data plan and plan to upgrade it to a smartphone on or after September 6, this year.

Reportedly, an internal email has divulged the above mentioned information. It is also believed that those customers who go ahead for unlocked devices will not have any kind of effect from this plan.

AT&T users it appears will need to check the monthly calendars first before buying a new smartphone or upgrading their devices.
