SK Telecom and Samsung to bring LiMo compliant handset

Limo And Samsung Logo LiMo Foundation brings the Samsung SCH-M510, claiming to be its first LiMo Compliant handset to be deployed in the Korean market. SK Telecom claims to be the latest global operator to specify and offer a LiMo handset to users, following previous deployments from LiMo operators like NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone. The Samsung SCH-M510 claims to be 45th LiMo compliant device.

The Samsung SCH-M510 is a feature rich media device and supports several audio and video media types. It equips a 3.5-inch WVGA Amoled screen and a 5 megapixel with autofocus functionality. The Wi-Fi enabled handset supports Bluetooth connectivity, proximity, accelerometer and ambient light sensors.

“Today’s announcement that SK Telecom will be bringing its first LiMo compliant handset to market is a significant milestone in the ongoing global growth and adoption of LiMo technologies,” said Morgan Gillis, Executive Director of LiMo Foundation. “LiMo’s global operators are committed to providing highly compelling and customized LiMo devices to their mobile subscribers – this initial handset from Samsung and SKT demonstrates the rapid maturation and opportunity within the LiMo ecosystem.”

Along with the SCH-M510, Limo Foundation has also declared the Korea LiMo Ecosystem Association. LiMo Foundation was launched in January 2007 with an objective to provide the mobile industry with an open, reliable Mobile Linux-based handset OS. LiMo Foundation is expected to enable the development of advanced, next-generation mobile user experience.

LiMo Foundation consists of OEMs, technology developers, and 13 global network operators.
