Samsung top mobile phone vendor in the U.S., says comScore report

Samsung is currently the top handset vendor, according to the survey results for the third quarter of this year in the U.S. by the comScore MobiLens service. During the three-month average period that ended in September, the company discovered that Samsung led the smartphone market share with 25.3 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers to its credit.

According to the study, LG occupied the second place after Samsung with 20.6 percent share and Motorola came third as it bagged 13.8 percent of the market share. Apple ranked fourth in the smartphone race as it recorded a 10.2 percent share of mobile subscribers and RIM followed with 7.1 percent share.

This survey clains that 234 million Americans above the age of thirteen used mobile devices during the said period. The ownership percentage of smartphones saw a 12 percent increase from the second quarterly results as the study recorded that 87.4 million people in the U.S. possessed one.

The position of the topmost mobile OS ws bagged by Google Android as it occupied 44.8 percent market share, which is 4.6 percent higher than the stats recorded in the previous three months. iOS secured the second place as it accounted for 27.4 percent of the smartphone OS market, while RIM got 18.9, Microsoft claimed 5.6 percent and Symbian took 1.8 percent to come in at third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Some of the other findings of the comScore 2011 third quarter study are that 71.1 percent of mobile phone owners in the U.S. used text messaging and browsers were employed by 42.9 percent of subscribers, while downloaded applications were utilized by 42.5 percent.
