Samsung surges in with Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro handsets

All those who appreciated the abilities of Samsung’s Wave S8500, maybe interested in this piece of news. Samsung has uncovered the Wave 2 S5250 and the Wave 2 Pro S5330 handsets. Both the devices flaunt TFT 3.2” WQVGA screens that display around 265K colors.

Each phone is fitted with a 3MP camera that lets users record MPEG4 videos in H.263 and H.264 formats and features geo-tagging The built-in music player incorporates SoundAlive and Music Recognition software. Users can also listen to and record music on the go with FM radio that the phone integrates.

JK Shin, President and head of the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, affirmed, “The Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro are testament to Samsung’s continuing commitment to deliver a smartphone for every lifestyle.”

The devices are attributed with the Social Hub that lets users access video messaging, ActiveSync, e-mails, IM and social networking sites through the device. They come pre-installed with apps from sites like Facebook and Twitter. Users can also access numerous Samsung apps and download files through the Samsung Kies software for PC to phone syncing.

“I expect significant growth of bada smartphones volume thanks to the launch of mass market targeting Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro. We will continue to invest in our open bada platform and offer a wide range of choices and experiences for consumers,” added Shin.

Users can access the web through the Dolfin browser 2.0 provided with the phones. The navigational functionality of the devices is backed by A-GPS and a LBS system. What’s more, Google Latitude lets users update statuses and search locations with the help of a map. Owners are provided with internal storage memory of about 80MB which is expandable by up to 16GB.

The devices support USB 2.0 and are embedded with microUSB slots. Wireless connectivity is backed by Wi-Fi 802.11n. Additionally, the handsets integrate BPP, OPP and PictBridge functionality and display offline as well as No SIM mode. They are powered by 1200mAh batteries and are operable over 2.5G GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 networks.

Apart from the accelerator sensor, the Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro offer users Bluetooth v2.1 and RSS reader capability. The Wave 2 is equipped with aTouchWiz 3.0 and runs on the bada open mobile platform. Its dimensions measure approximately 109.5mm x 55mm x 11.7mm. The Wave 2 Pro is fitted with a QWERTY keypad and offers users the liberty to view the screen even in landscape mode.

Customers can choose between three colors namely, metallic black, pearl white and romantic pink. The Wave 2 S5250 and the Wave 2 Pro S5330 handsets are expected to be available in Russia and SEA in August this year.
