There have been quite a few companies putting their green foot forward in order to help save the environment, may it be recycling handsets, conduct exchange programs among other endeavors. Now AT&T further seems to do its bit by unveiling the Samsung Evergreen which is built with 70% recycled post-consumer plastics and packaging fashioned using 80% recycled post-consumer paper.

Furthermore, Samsung Mobile has divulged that $1 for every Samsung Evergreen device sold will be donated to the non-profit organization called Cell Phones for Soldiers with a maximum donation of $100,000. The handset complies with stringent RoHS standards and comes bundled with an Energy Star Version 2.0 qualified charger (level V) with standby power loss less than 0.03W and an energy efficiency of less than 75 percent. Taking the place of the traditional paper user guide is a CD packed with information pertaining to games and apps, an interactive tutorial, AT&T’s recycling program and the phone’s user manual.

“This year AT&T worked to provide simpler solutions for customers, first with the Zero charger and now the Samsung Evergreen,” commented Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Taking steps to reduce the amount of environmentally sensitive materials in the device and increase the amount of recycled paper in packaging are small steps, which in the end, lead to a healthier environment.”

“Samsung Mobile is committed to making our products more eco-friendly and we are proud to offer AT&T customers an eco-centric device with an impressive feature set and stylish design,” stated Omar Khan, Chief Strategy Officer, Samsung Mobile. “The Evergreen is made of 70% post-consumer recycled plastics and as a whole is 83% recyclable. It also features reduced and recyclable packaging, a CD to replace the user manual and an Energy Star qualified charger.”

Coming to the specifications of the Samsung Evergreen, this mobile is packed with a 2.4” display and full slide-out QWERTY keyboard which enables users to effortlessly type out long messages. Pictures and video can be captured via the 2.0 megapixel camera and video camcorder. Additional features include stereo Bluetooth wireless technology v2.1 + SSP, AT&T Navigator, dual-band 3G connectivity, quad-band GSM technology. Through the latter two options, users can chat with loved ones situated across over 220 countries as well as download data from over 195 of them.

The network carrier is slated to launch the Samsung offering on November 7, 2010 tagged with a price of $29.99 after $50 mail-in rebate where customers must pay $79.99 and then receive $50 AT&T Promotion Card after mail-in rebate. The company however states that a two-year agreement and $20 a month messaging or combination of messaging/data plan is needed to avail of the offering.
