Samsung commercial LTE modem for mobile phones unleashed

Samsung Logo Downloading and uploading is now made faster and hassle free, Samsung recently unveiled the Long Term Evolution (LTE) modem that is designed in accordance to the latest standards of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project. Employing the Release 8 of the 3GPP, the LTE modem is more enhanced than the previous standard that was introduced in December 2008.

The commercial LTE modem, better known as Kalmia supports download speed up to 100Mbps and upload speed of 50Mbps within the 20MHz frequency bandwidth. Handsets built with LTE chipset are capable of downloading a high-definition movie file just in one minute at a speed of 100Mbps and while simultaneously streaming four high-definition movies with no buffering.

“Our latest LTE standard chip-set will help realize the world’s first commercial LTE device. Currently, Samsung is partnering with LTE developers preparing for a LTE service launch in 2010 and will unveil a variety of LTE devices of different types and with diverse features and options, including memory cards, handheld devices and MID,” stated JongKyun Shin, Executive Vice President and head of Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics.

Further, Samsung also revealed that they have developed a 3G baseband modem founded on the Release 7 standard with an HSPA Evolution platform. The modem is known as Broom and offers download speeds of up to 28Mbps and upload speeds of 11.5Mbps. Since LTE and all other HSPA evolution models are developed on the same platform, the LTE modem is fully attuned with the previous standards. Mobile communications service provider can now advance to HSPA service or progress into a LTE network concurrently, in order to renovate their existing networks to broadband.

With such major innovations from Samsung’s end and more coming in the future, we expect revolutionary changes in the wireless mobile communications systems.
