Reliance Jio Preview users downgraded, Lyf phone explosion rumor surfaces

Reliance Jio is facing massive problems at its consumer end as Preview Offer users are allegedly being shifted without any prior notice to the limited data Welcome Offer. This sudden change in the nature of services is also accompanied by a huge delay in customers being able to obtain and activate a Jio SIM card. Besides these, there are rumors of an exploding Lyf smartphone doing the rounds on a social media platform.

To begin with, users are reportedly being migrated from the unlimited Jio Preview Offer valid for 90 days after activation to the Welcome Offer which restricts data usage to 4GB per day. Customers have claimed that the internet speed simply reduces to 128Kbps after crossing the daily limit and they cannot enjoy the benefits of the 4G network after that.

The Welcome Offer is valid till December 31, 2016. Users can check if their Preview Offer has been switched to the new one by opening up the My Jio app. The home screen will display details about the active proposal on the SIM. Reliance might probably send a message to customers stating that the plan has been changed. The audience may have mixed reactions about the alteration in Jio’s proposition.

Unlike the unlimited data that Jio Preview comes with, the Welcome Offer grants about 120GB data per month, but heavy internet users will be disappointed by the daily cap. Consumers possibly will also be wary of investing in a SIM card from the brand due to this incident or they may subscribe to new service providers after the deal expires.

While present clients of Jio services are facing this issue, would-be users are finding it difficult to obtain a SIM card from Reliance stores. The company is selling only a limited number of them everyday and the demand for these is higher than supply. Customers are complaining about the long queues in the shops and the cards often running out for the day in the morning itself.

Some of those who have already purchased a SIM are awaiting its activation. The delay in accessing services is likely to turn probable customers away from the new network. Reliance is not accepting pre-bookings or giving home delivery for the cards either. As if that wasn’t enough bad news for the company, rumors about a Lyf Water 1 smartphone exploding on usage are doing the rounds on social media.

One consumer has claimed that the phone blew up when it was operational and injured his hand. The incident has not been reported officially as yet but if it is true, it may pose problems for the sale of the device. Reliance may want to look into the matter before negative publicity ends up taking the spotlight from Jio.
