Release of iPhone 4S and iOS 5 boosted mobile app downloads in November: Fiksu

Fiksu Study

Fiksu has revealed the results of its November survey according to which the release of the iPhone 4S and the iOS 5 platform in October resulted in the increase of the download volume of the top 200 free apps by 15% from the previous month. These figures were recorded by the Fiksu App Store Competitive Index which gauges the average aggregate download volume of the top 200 free U.S. iPhone apps, per day.

The company states that in October, a record of 4.91 million daily downloads were registered and the numbers took a huge leap with the introduction of the next generation iPhone and the latest Apple OS soon thereafter. November saw the amount of daily free downloads going up to 5.65 million which is 15 percent more than the figure recorded in October.

Micah Adler, Fiksu’s CEO, stated, “Unlike October’s intermittent spikes in downloads and costs, November saw a steady increase in demand for app downloads without any notable fluctuations in mobile app marketing costs – even over Thanksgiving weekend. Signs indicate that app marketers have become savvier about planning and executing their ad spends during seasonal periods to avoid paying premium prices for acquiring users. In fact, November presented them with a somewhat unique opportunity to add more users at costs that were actually below October’s.”

These app download volume stats are much higher than those registered last year which were 83 percent lower. This study illustrates the huge demand of applications and the acceleration in their download rate within a span of just 12 months.

While the free app download rate experienced an enormous rise, there wasn’t much difference seen in the category of paid apps. The Fiksu Cost per Loyal User Index for the month of November remained somewhat steady as it recorded $1.43, which is just four cents less as compared to October’s $1.47.
