Rebtel now demonstrates its new Rebtel Free call application for Android phones which does not charge the caller for an international call. The application allows the user to make international calls to 51 countries without charge.

Moreover, one doesn’t even need to be in a Wi-Fi zone to make use of this application. Versions of the app for Blackberry and the iPhone are to be submitted to Rim and Apple respectively.

Andreas Bernstrom, CEO of Stockholm Rebtel exclaimed that, “International calls from telephones used to grow a steady 15% every year until recently when it dropped to 8%, mainly due to the new behavior of calling from computers. But most people would rather use their phone, not their computer, to make an international call.” “As we take our Android app’s automatic free international calling to iPhone, Blackberry, and eventually regular feature phones, we think we can tear a significant chunk out of the annual 406 billion minutes called internationally, because Rebtel Free Call means you’ll never have to pay for an international minute again.”

The Rebtel application is a free-to-download application and functions in a simple manner. Upon downloading the application, the user needs to key in the desired international number and push the call button. The call is made over the internet using the usual cellular network. The caller is not charged if the receiver also has the Rebtel Call Free application on their handset.

The user is debited for the call using Rebtel’s general ultra-low rates in case of the receiver not having the application installed. Users can also utilize the manual method available for calling free-of-cost. The application will be accessible in the Android Market in the coming week.
