Raspberry Pi Model A price in US declared, now available

The Raspberry Pi Model A is what’s currently cooking for the US and it also comes at a pocket-friendlier price compared to its sibling. The device happens to be a microcomputer measuring up to a credit card’s size. While the model B demands $35, the variant in question settles for just $25.

Considering each variant is capable of performing normal functions of a PC, we must admit the manufacturer has pinned them with a commendably low retail tag. Why has the company pegged the device at such a low amount? Well, the OEM claims to be a not-for-profit organization and thus, only asks users to pay for the manufacturing and shipping charges.

In order to see this developer board in action, users will have to latch it onto a monitor or a TV with appropriate programming. This however isn’t a simple plug and play computer, nor does it offer the privileges of Windows or similar packages pre-installed.

The presence of HDMI, 3.5mm audio jack and SD card sockets as well as 256MB of RAM is evident on the ‘A’ variant which supports the Linux OS. A Broadcom BCM2835 processor running at a speed of 700MHz happens to be a part of the board’s ecosystem. The device does not proffer an Ethernet port, but it does come with a video camera connector.

The developer board initially went up for sale within the borders of Europe sometime in the month of February. Even Asia has joined the race to bag the affordable device just last week. The company made a statement saying it didn’t take time for the initial 20,000 units to be sold out and at present, the production amounts to a few thousand models per week.

Tech Crunch is reporting that the Raspberry Pi Model A has been made available in the country through an online shopping outlet known as Allied Electronics. The post also brings to our notice that only 70 units of the device are in stock currently.
