Paytm virtual wallet app now reaches Asha phones

Mobile commerce services like Airtel Money and Paytm are slowly but surely gaining popularity in India. And what better way to reach the masses than by bringing these services to lower or mid range devices like the Nokia Asha phones? For those who don’t know, facilities such as the two we’ve mentioned allow people to pay for products or services using their handsets.

When this sort of virtual money transfer process gains enough popularity and most importantly, users’ faith in its security, we’ll be looking at a wallet-free world. So that’s one less thing to carry around in your pocket. Paytm is an app which is already available for Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices. It has now reached the Asha series through the Nokia online store.

Paytm App Interface

The developing company describes the tool as a recharge and bill payments application for mobile platforms. The idea is pretty straightforward, after downloading the app, users will be required to set up a Paytm account and transfer money to it via a debit card, credit card or net banking. The money dropped into this account can then be used to pay postpaid bills or recharge a phone.

People can employ the utility to settle their dues with DTH operators or top up toll cards for the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Those availing of the service can also opt to book bus tickets and pay landline or electricity bills from select service providers. Now and again, the company baits users with interesting discount coupon offers on cinema tickets, bus fares and more.

The system leans on a PCI DSS security certified commerce platform that uses VeriSign technology to keep people’s account data safe. The Paytm app itself is a free, 0.61MB download through the Nokia Store.
