Panasonic P51 to be launched in India on May 16

Panasonic has turned its attention towards the markets in India once again, as the P51 from the company seems all set to enter the country. The manufacturer itself has confirmed this piece of information by sending out invites for an event scheduled to be held on May 16.

The guys over at BGR had reported about a month ago that the OEM in question plans to introduce phones in the subcontinent, but it had refused to confirm anything at that point of time. It looks like the speculation was true after all. According to the invite, the imminent gadget will be the ‘first ever Panasonic smartphone.’ No other details have been provided, but some of its specifications have been leaked through a television commercial.

Panasonic P51 Invite

Although this TVC doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming Panasonic phone, it does give us an idea about what can be expected in terms of features. The front panel will be dominated by an IPS screen which offers a multi-touch real estate spanning 5 inches diagonally and renders clear visuals in HD resolution. Thus, it sticks to the current norm of huge touchscreens and declares itself to be the latest contender in the already over-crowded phablet segment. Needless to say that it will operate with the assistance of the Android OS and it should employ nothing less than the Jelly Bean platform.

Apart from the display, information regarding its chipset has also been disclosed. The driving force behind the device is a powerful quad core processor that should ensure smooth multitasking and navigation at all times. This particular chip is said to be capable of clocking in a maximum speed of 1.2GHz. The commercial has also spilled the beans regarding the handset’s camera. Its rear side will reportedly be dominated by an 8MP snapper.

The aforementioned website has found out from its sources that this company will not manufacture the devices itself, but will collaborate with a third party OEM for the same. This will basically be done to make sure that the phones meet the demands of people in the subcontinent. The conglomerate plans to adopt this strategy in a number of other emerging markets as well.

The availability details of the Panasonic P51 are under wraps as of now.

Purported specifications of the device:

– 5-inch IPS HD multi-touch display
– Android OS
– 1.2GHz quad core processor
– 8MP rear-facing camera
