Palm branding crossed out of HPwebOS.com

HP Drops Palm URL

While everyone concerned awaits the new version of webOS that’s slated for launch in fall 2011, there’s other news from these quarters. HP has finally shown the Palm brand the door without actually sounding an official announcement for the same. The name’s not changing for handsets which were previously introduced with it, though Palm has now been completely written off from the URL of the official HP website.

We’ve been tracing a lot of transitions within the company since the takeover last year. It started with the upgrade to HP webOS 2.0 and then the announcement about the Palm Pre 2’s availability, with the hardware still featuring the original company name. Then the absence of this brand in the launch of the Pre 3 and Veer smartphones a few months later failed to look inconspicuous.

It must be noted that the brand features on the company’s Twitter account, official blog and its support page even now. But once the domain name Palm.com is typed, users land up at HPwebOS.com anyway.
