Palm App catalog soon to have E-commerce Beta Program

Palm logoThere seems to be some good news for developers who desire to charge for their Palm webOS applications. Palm, Inc recently proclaimed to release the e-commerce beta program for the Palm App catalog soon. With this, developers intending to charge for their Palm webOS applications can now start submitting them in the Palm App catalog e-commerce beta program.

Developers allowed to partake in the beta program will be enabled to have their applications, both free and paid. Besides the developers will also have an opportunity to be among the first to be paid for purchasing their Palm webOs applications.

Katie Mitic, senior vice president, Product Marketing, Palm, Inc. stated, “We’re rolling out the submission process and e-commerce capabilities of the Palm App Catalog with careful consideration for both the developer and customer. We want every part of the Palm webOS experience to be the best, and a strong e-commerce model is key to a thriving developer community, great apps and an excellent customer experience.”

For the Palm Pre phone and other Palm webOs devices in the relatively near future, the App Catalog e-commerce beta program will provide developers with a 70/30 split (developer/Palm) of gross revenues produced from application sales. Besides, customers can merely use their Visa and MasterCard credit cards to purchase the applications conveniently.

Palm’s e-commerce beta program is expected to commence in mid-September. Palm is looking forward to release the full developer program in the US now. Complete details about the program and distribution models will be available in the upcoming weeks.
