Single developer spams BlackBerry World with over 48K apps

It looks like BlackBerry will do anything to increase the quantity of applications on World store, even if it means approving as many as 48,000 apps from a single developer. Yes, that’s exactly what the Canada-based conglomerate has done and the developer in question goes by the name of S4BB.

As BGR India, who spotted this piece of news on BerryReview, reports, there are more than 1,20,000 applications in its marketplace, which means about one third of the total apps on it are developed by this company. It highly contradicts the OEM’s claims of growing developers’ interest in the platform. It should also be noted that not all of these utilities are helpful to end users and most of them can not even be termed as proper applications.

S4BB on BlackBerry World

A chunk of these 48,000 utilities are just spam apps and do not come across as useful. This could be a reason why BlackBerry owners often complain that they don’t find relevant tools on BlackBerry World. How will they, considering that the dominant developer in the store has put up a horde of city guides, audiobooks, phrasesbooks and similar unnecessary software on it.

It’s not like the app store in question is the only one that has a huge number of spam utilities. The other major marketplaces host a lot of spam apps too. But we don’t think these stores have as many as 48,000 applications from a single company.

Hopefully, BlackBerry will now concentrate on coming up with productive tools and discourage such practices by those who are spamming the store.
