Google mobile and desktop services learn Hindi for handwriting support

Almost a month after Google introduced the handwriting input tool which supported Hindi for Translate, the company has now brought a similar feature for Android and Chrome. The attribute dedicated to the mobile platform however, is still in its beta phase, a post on the Google India blog noted.

The high point of this introduction is that it eliminates the virtual keyboard’s usage, which practically occupies half of any device’s display. All it takes is writing a word or a phrase anywhere on the screen (Yes, not just the search tool box) and a dropdown menu will automatically recognize it and put forth translations.

To make the most of this feature, try to find Handwrite under Search Settings and enable it. It is also necessary that the language in Google products is changed to Hindi and so is the dialect for search results. While this procedure applies to smartphone devices, tablet owners can make alterations through an option within the gear icon. Also, anyone with an Android 2.3+ handset, tablet powered by ICS or higher and gadgets running iOS 5 or later can utilize the regular app.

Likewise, those on the desktop can employ Chrome for a similar experience by adding an extension. Hunt for input tools on the webstore or look for them on the main search engine. Install the tools, following which it will be necessary to add Hindi to the browser’s extension options by hitting on the icon residing on the toolbar.

Moreover, Android 4.3 which recently received official recognition has been built to support an interface compatible with Hindi. Just keep an eye out for the dialect in the Language and Input menu within Settings.
