OnBeat solar headphones can charge mobile devices

The OnBeat solar headphones are meant for users who have been looking for gadgets that could come to their rescue at times when their handheld devices go dead and need to be charged on the move. As the name suggests, the eco-friendly piece of hardware makes use of solar energy to power up smartphones and tablets.

The entire headband of the accessory integrates a flexible cell which is primarily responsible for capturing solar energy, while the two ear cups accommodate a 1000mAh lithium-ion battery each. Energy captured by the 0.55W cell automatically gets saved in these two batteries. Made of poly-crystalline silicone, the solar panel covers an area of 55 cubic centimeters and manages to power up the built-in packs in order to completely charge a mobile phone.

But this panel is not the only source of power for the headset. The company has carved out a USB port on the chassis of the OnBeat solar headphones in order to permit users to charge it via a computer system or a wall socket. In spite of packing in all of these components, the gadget refrains from compromising on comfort levels. An adjustable folding headband is accompanied by soft ear pads which allow prospective users to keep the accessory on for a long time.

Color Option

And what’s more, a remote has been fitted into the device so its volume levels can be adjusted easily. The peripheral is also said to be capable of rendering an enhanced acoustic experience, thanks to its 40mm audio drivers. It is packaged along with a 1.5m audio cable as well as a 6.3mm stereo plug converter, apart from a charger and a carry pouch.

Prototypes

The OnBeat solar headphones require backing and are currently asking for help through Kickstarter. This product will see the light of the day if its designers manage to collect £200,000 in the next 27 days. The headset has 177 backers who have already pledged £13,825.
