Nokia’s Ovi Life Tools head to China

Designed for the emerging markets, the informative tools render a wide range of information services covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment.

The newly revealed service addresses the need of rural users with the vision to ensure livelihood and life-impacting benefits to improve their economic prosperity and quality of life. Just to notify, two affordable mobile phones, the Nokia 1616 and the Nokia 1800, will lend support to this new service.

The healthcare service provides information on topics including Respiratory, Hepatitis B, Female Illness and Male Illness, Pregnancy Care and Infant Care. The subscription cost for each of the healthcare services is RMB 5 per month and RMB is 5 per month and RMB 1 for each on-demand request.

“While China’s urbanization is growing rapidly, we believe there is a compelling need to provide mobile solutions in emerging markets bringing affordable, quality, and locally relevant information direct to the consumer,” elaborated Chris Leong, Senior Vice President, Greater China, Korea and Japan. “As an innovative rural mobile solution addressing the information gaps of rural people in China, Ovi Life Tools was designed from the ground up through extensive research. It is a result of close cooperation between partners and we are sure it will continue to develop over time helping to enhance the lives of consumers.”

The agriculture service comes as a package covering Agriculture News, Market Prices, and Agriculture Weather. The subscription cost for the agriculture service is RMB 8 per month and RMB 1 for each on-demand request. On the other hand, the education service integrates Learn English, General Knowledge and Exam Tips. These services are anticipated to be available in the third quarter of 2010. This service will be available only by subscription, costing RMB 5 per month each.

Further, the entertainment service offers Weather, Jokes and Straw Draw, with more content to be added in the future. The subscription cost is RMB 5 per month and RMB 1 per on-demand request.

Besides, the Nokia 1800 sports a large color display, FM radio, a flashlight, a calendar with reminders, MP3-grade ring tones, and an integrated hands-free speaker. To make the handset even more appealing, exchangeable color covers pop up.

The Nokia 1616 equips a long-lasting anti-dust keypad, FM radio, a flashlight, and a display that makes viewing information on the small screen easier.

The Nokia 1800 and Nokia 1616 with Ovi Life Tools will be made available in mid-May. The estimated retail price is around RMB 250-300.
