Nokia shuns away rumors of Android device

Nokia Android phone The recent rumors on the Internet stated that Nokia is working on a new Android based phone. However, an update on this has been achieved and according to Engadget Nokia has completely turned down reports of building a device based on Android platform.

Reportedly, Nokia spokesman said that the rumors do not hold any truth and the company prefers the Symbian platform for its advanced mobile devices.

However, earlier Guardian had reported that Nokia will unveil an Android-powered touchscreen mobile phone shortly at the Nokia World conference in September, 2009. It is believed that the phone is apparently at such a stage of development that any change in the platform used would affect the reputation of the company. The company has always based their handsets on Symbian, this rapid switch can also be considered as a measure to apparently stop the company from losing out on the market share which is faced lately.

Apparently, the company is said to be working on the Maemo platform which presently powers their Internet tablets. This could also be the platform that Nokia plans to expand to its smartphones.

Though Nokia has totally denied working on the Android platform, it will be interesting to see whether the company changes its ever going practice of using the Symbian platform.
