Aimed at making location sharing easier on its handsets, the Nokia Pulse app has now been released in beta version. This applications smoothes out the process of users letting friends in on their location by replacing the idea of making calls and sending texts with executing simple taps.

The app lets users create several groups to make it easier to communicate. This also helps keep the conversation private and precise. The developers assure that the communication is as personal and simple as sending a text, just more clear and concise as well as accurate.

The overall working of the app is expected to be pretty uncomplicated. After being downloaded, the app takes care of conveying the user’s location to loved ones. This can be done by typing in the concerned message, or by merely ‘checking in’, which enables the app to send the user’s location to the desired recipients. The folks on the receiving end can then simply tap in their location as a reply.

Other than letting people know about each other’s current positions by means of a map, Pulse is also designed to let users do more. These cover discovering, posting and sharing nearby places with recommendations, ratings, directions and even direct access to a phone number to make it more accessible.

Apart from being launched as a mobile app, Pulse is also being made available over the internet, as well as a part of the mobile web as part of Nokia Maps. As an app, it can presently be used on Symbian powered handsets, as well as the company’s Windows Phone 7 devices, which include the recently launched Lumia 800 and 710. A version of this app compatible with the series 40 models is expected soon.

The beta version of the Nokia Pulse app can now be downloaded from the company’s official website.
