Nokia N96, the official successor to the Nokia N95 multimedia device has been showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2008.

This new dual-slide phone is being touted to be a multimedia computer truly optimized for video and TV.

Jonas Geust, VP of Multimedia Computers Department, Nokia said, “Through the power of the Internet, video and TV are becoming even more prevalent in people’s lives. With its large, bright screen, and a range of high-speed connectivity options and the enhanced Nokia Video Center, the new Nokia N96 is a personal window to entertainment.”

The key features of the Nokia N96 multimedia computer are:

  • 2.8-inch LCD screen
  • Integrated 16 GB of internal memory, which can be expanded further to as much a 24GB with an optional microSD card
  • Compatible with MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video formats
  • High-speed USB 2.0 connection, WLAN and HSDPA support
  • Includes GPS support and the Nokia Maps application
  • 5MP camera, based on Carl Zeiss optics and includes flash and video light
  • DVD-like quality video capture at 30 frames per second
  • Supports the Ovi family of Nokia internet services, including maps, music, media sharing and more
  • In addition, Nokia N96 also includes media keys, a 3.5 mm headphone connector and built-in 3D stereo speakers.

    Nokia’s N96 “multimedia computer” is slated for a September 2008 launch and will carry a price tag of about $800.
