A new software update is being rolled out for Nokia Lumia 800 handsets all over the world. But for enthusiasts who are expecting it to bring in the Wi-Fi tethering feature announced earlier, that is not happening so soon, confirms the company.
Although the Finland based manufacturer is not neglecting its Symbian category or Series 40 range, ample attention is being paid to the Lumia series. The third one since the release of the device, this new update comes hot on the heels of the introduction of the CDMA version of the Lumia 800 in China. The software revamp is expected to bring in attributes like improved battery life, bass enhancements to audio and better brightness settings for soft keys at all levels.
“We’ve heard your feedback and comments: better battery performance is what you really want. And that’s exactly what you’ll get. We put the software through rigorous tests, and what came out was an update that shows significant improvements in battery life, whether it’s for talk time in 3G networks, browsing over WiFi, music playback, or simply, the overall usage time. Our internal testing also showed that for smartphones with similar battery capacities (the Lumia 800 sports a 1450mAh battery), the Lumia 800 was now among the top performers in battery life for the key measures that we concentrated on,” conveys the company through a recent post on the Nokia Conversations blog.
Even though the upgrade will be available worldwide, it is expected to happen in stages for various countries. The first phase was kicked off on March 28. Nations which do not find a place in this rollout can wait for schedules starting on April 4, April 11 and April 18. The delay is said to be due to reasons like testing of the overhaul through Zune or Windows Phone 7 Connector, network operator tests and so on.
