Nokia and Airtel join hands over free Android app downloads for Nokia XL phone

Nokia and Airtel have joined hands to offer Nokia XL users across India free Android app downloads as part of a plan to encourage data usage and treat owners of the smartphone simultaneously. Going by the details of the deal, subscribers will be able to download applications onto their handset for free.

But there are certain terms and conditions strung along the promotion, of course. The offer will let Nokia XL users who also happen to be Airtel subscribers, download and install Android apps without paying a cent. It basically lends you 500MB of free data which you can make use of within 6 months.

Now you know that the Nokia XL works on a forked version of Android, meaning you can’t download applications directly from the Google Play Store onto it. So you can use the 500MB data option to get Android applications from the Nokia Store as well as the third-party 1Mobile Market. Airtel had previously introduced a 500MB data offer for the Nokia X also.

Nokia XL main specs at a glance:

– Display: 5-inch, 800 x 480p IPS LCD screen
– Memory: 768MB RAM, 4GB ROM
– SoC: Dual core 1GHz Snapdragon S4 processor
– Cameras: 5MP rear, 2MP front
– Expandability: 32GB microSD card support
– OS: Nokia X software platform 1.0
– Battery: 2000mAh power house
– Weight: 190 grams
– Dimensions: 10.9 x 141.4 x 77.7 millimeters

The free 500MB Airtel data for Android app downloads on the Nokia XL is subject to Fair Usage Policy, something which may or may not affect download speeds depending on the data plan you’re on, according to our understanding.
