Nokia examines its LTE technology driven internet modem

Nokia Logo Just a few days back, Samsung unveiled commercial LTE modems for mobile phones and now Nokia unveiled its first Long Term Evolution (LTE) capable internet modem, based on its own LTE modem technology development.

The Nokia Internet Modem RD-3 is ready to be used in LTE technology development along with various network vendors, measurement equipment manufacturers and operators. The RD-3 offers interoperability with GSM/EDGE and WCDMA/HSPA to explore the global GSM and WCDMA.

“Nokia is committed to supporting industry activities aimed at maturing LTE technology to enable the first commercial networks to launch in 2010. Nokia is a founding member in the LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI) and carries out interoperability testing with a number of network vendors, collaborates with measurement equipment manufacturers and is ready to support operators with their LTE deployment activities. The Nokia Internet Modem RD-3 is used in all these activities,” mentioned Jani Mäenpää, Project Manager, LTE/SAE Interoperability and Trials, Nokia.

The Nokia Internet modem is attuned with multiple LTE frequency bands, thus living up to the requisites of operators’ deployment plans across many different countries and regions. When compared with the current mobile broadband technologies, LTE delivers higher data rates and lower response times. Employing the LTE, users can enjoy wireless IP-based real-time multimedia services, making it a revolutionary technology.
