The Nokia 808 PureView US launch comes as no big surprise, considering that most of us were already clued in. And just as speculated, the smartphone will arrive as an unlocked version, though a few carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T are tying up with it.

The Finland-based company and Amazon have signed the deal for releasing the handset in the US. It is expected to ship in an unlocked and therefore unsubsidized version stateside. For now, potential users need to cough up a sum of $699 for using the smartphone with a compatible AT&T SIM card. Alternately, a T-Mobile SIM card offering 2G data speeds can be availed of.

Talking about the handset, its whopping 41MP camera has been in the limelight ever since it was first introduced to the world. If that’s not enough, Nokia has revved it up with Carl Zeiss optics and PureView technology to make the camera specs look extremely attractive.

The integrated sensor offers HD 1080p video recording and playback capability with 4x lossless zoom. The device employs Nokia Rich Recording for audio recording that’s touted to proffer ‘CD-like’ output. It is armed with a 4-inch screen and 16GB internal memory along with ports for DLNA and HDMI. Likewise, connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and NFC are ready at hand. The smartphone has just begun its globetrotting expeditions, with it recently going live for audiences in India.

Like we’ve already mentioned, the Nokia 808 PureView price for the US stands at $699. Pre-bookings for the phone will kick off via Amazon.com by the end of this week.

UPDATE: The US version of the 808 PureView ‘works just fine with T-Mobile’ in the US. It won’t be restricted to 2G on this particular carrier, as mistakenly stated by the Nokia folks previously.
