Nissan licenses Scratch Shield paint for NTT DoCoMo handsets

NTT DoCoMo Logo Automobile manufacturer Nissan recently revealed that it will license its innovative Scratch Shield paint to NTT DoCoMo for mobile phone application in Japan. Presently, the self-healing paint is applied to certain Nissan and Infiniti vehicles across the globe.

The Scratch Shield paint was developed in association with University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials Inc. The paint was commercially introduced way back in December, 2005. This innovative paint self-heals fine scratches and is able to restore the vehicle’s paint surfaces overnight or up to a week’s time in more severe cases.

The Scratch Shield paint claims to be more scratch-resistant than conventional paint, offering a more durable and long-lasting paint coat. The self-heal quality of the paint seems to be ideal for mobile phone application, which is vulnerable to scratches over daily use. NTT DoCoMo will license the Scratch Shield for its mobile phones to be introduced in Japan, presenting a value-added feature for its customers.

The automobile manufacturer has been licensing its revolutionary technologies for various non-automotive applications since 2004, and the Scratch Sheild paint for handsets will apparently make mobile phones more resilient and durable.
