Newer Palm Pres feature improved hardware

New Hardware Palm Pre The first batch of Palm Pres experienced a few build related quality issues. The Palm company was swift in correcting these problems and the Pres manufactured in July reportedly don’t have these problems.

PreThinking surveyed around 20 people that purchased the Palm Pre in the last 15 days. In the first batch of Pres, a few had developed spider web-like cracks. The second problem was that when the keyboard was forcefully closed, sometimes the Pre would shut off or reset itself. The reason for this was that a tiny gap would be created between the connectors when the keyboard was forcefully closed causing the Pre to reset itself. It was found that the newly manufactured Pres did not experience these issues.

Other improvements were that the finish of the center button was changed from a pearl finish to a silvery finish. Also previously, the two halves of the Pre would inadvertently twist leading to what was called the Oreo effect. This issue has also been corrected.

Additionally, there are likely to be two different models of the 1150mAh standard battery. Another minor but mentionable improvement is that the complementary Palm pouch now has a Palm logo embossed on it.

There may be even more improvements to the hardware in the future.
