New smartphone consumers prefer Android, says Nielsen wire

Nielsen Wire SurveyThe latest survey report from Nielsen wire has found out that among the lot of new smartphone buyers in U.S.A., who purchased handsets in the last three months, 56 percent have chosen an Android one. The latest report explains that the choices of new consumers play an important role in determining where the smartphone market is heading.

As per the survey which Nielsen wire had conducted last month, 43 percent of all smartphone owners in the US possessed an Android device. The new reports show that more than half of the latest consumers prefer Android, suggesting that the platform is fast gaining popularity.

According to the survey, Apple iOS is still maintaining its second position as it has 28 percent of all smartphone users on its side. The percentage for new acquirers is also the same as far as Apple is concerned. However it seems that these statistics could keep fluctuating as each time Apple launches a new iPhone or makes it available on a new wireless carrier, an increase in their sales is seen.

Furthermore, the report says that the category of smartphones itself is on a high as 56 percent of those who got a new device in the last three months opted for a smartphone over a feature phone. It appears that the holiday season combined with the launch of new devices like the next generation iPhone could increase smartphone sales in the coming months.

The growing popularity of app-and-media friendly smartphones is likely to translate into immense opportunity for those advertisers, publishers and developers wishing to leverage mobile media.
