New Floater concept makes a smartphone an eReader

Floater 01

The Floater concept of an eReader and a smartphone in one neat profile, looks like a convenient alternative to heavier tablets or other gadgets. The smartphone essentially sports a compact form factor that can be expanded to flaunt a bigger screen for reading eBooks.

Once the device is unfolded, it serves as an eBook reader sporting a 6-inch LCD screen. Potential users may be happy to know that the size is very close to the iconic Kindle’s.

Just as the device in question is folded back, it gets transformed into a smartphone with a 4.6-inch LCD screen. A translucent 4.4-inch LCD is incorporated between its 2 partitions and this is touted to offer ‘augmented reality.’

Many tech buffs who happen to be avid readers with a preference for catching up on the latest content in books or newspapers generally opt for slabs or eReaders. This design surely seems promising, given that a smartphone and an eReader make for an attractive and productive pair.

Floater 03

With dimensions measuring 60mm x 13mm x 120mm, it does not appear to be as sleek as the mobile devices we’ve been seeing lately. But this is only understandable as it has been tailored to serve two purposes. It can be charged when the main body is resting on the cradle of the device that is made from plastic with a white finish.

The mind behind this brand new Floater concept is Jeong Jaewan, as reported on Yanko Design.
