After recently getting into a limited time agreement with EA Sports for FIFA 12 on Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson is now expanding its smartphone line-up with the highly anticipated Xperia Ray by releasing it soon through Vodafone UK. The unlocked black hued variant of this device was first up on play.com for pre-order, but the release dates were delayed from August to September.
Giving very less details about this coming-soon handset, Vodafone UK has announced its availability in gold shade, while the company has offered variants like black, pink and white as well. Vodafone mentions the handset as too new to give out any details so soon.
To have a look at its specifications, the device is 9.4mm slim with an aluminum frame. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread version and is incorporated with mobile Bravia engine with reality display which shows clear pictures on its 3.3-inch WVGA touchscreen.
Powered with a 1GHz processor, the Xperia Ray can shoot 720p HD videos and capture memories as sharp images with its rear 8.1MP camera. It also sports a video-chat ready VGA camera on its front. The handset also prides on Sony’s Exmor R for mobile CMOS sensor which gives brilliant pictures even in poor light conditions.
Another feature specific to this handset as an Xperia variant is the Facebook for Xperia function. It offers Facebook functions designed especially for the smartphone like sharing music or videos from the music player and viewing Facebook albums directly on the handset’s gallery. It also shows Facebook events like birthdays, etc. in the calendar.
On the connectivity front, the device is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled as also DLNA certified. The battery supports the handset for approximately 7 hours talk time and for a stand by time up to 440 hours.
The potential consumers of Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray via Vodafone may have to wait for a considerable time to lay their hands on this device as there is no word yet on the release date of this device.
