The good news for Motorola Milestone 2 users is that it will soon be updated from Android Froyo to the Gingerbread version. According to the company’s official Facebook page, the upgrades are set to roll out beginning from the fourth quarter of this year.

The smartphone is a GSM-based version of the Android Moto Droid 2 which is sold through Verizon Wireless. Launched last year, the handset offers users the option of typing through its side-sliding QWERTY keyboard or the 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen. It comes with 8GB built-in storage which can be expanded up to 40GB with microSD memory cards.

Providing users HSPA, Wi-Fi and 3G mobile hotspot connectivity options, this device integrates a 5MP camera with auto-focus, geo-tagging, digital zoom and dual LED flash. Weighing 169g, it features 512MB RAM and measures 116.3mm x 60.5mm x 13.7mm.

This handset runs on a 1400mAh Li-polymer battery which delivers a talk and stand by time of 10 and 315 hours respectively. The Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR enabled smartphone is powered by a 1GHz processor and accompanied by a 3.5mm headphone jack. Furthermore, it is capable of supporting Adobe Flash Player 10 and is available with Motoblur in many nations.

Motorola Milestone 2 smartphone users will be receiving the Android 2.3 upgrade starting early Q4. As the date of availability approaches, details regarding each country’s update will be disclosed.
