Droid MotorolaMotorola fans can gear up for some exciting news coming their way, for Motorola and Verizon wireless is releasing a new handset called Droid. The device is claimed to be the first smartphone powered by Android 2.0. Droid claims to pack in the brainpower and breakneck speed of a modern smartphone, intended to surpass where other smartphones have foundered.

The phone is a state-of-the-art, location-aware, voice-recognizing, over-the-air updating, and multi-tasking machine. One of the chief attributes of the handset is that the user can browse the net at an extremely high-speed. Internet can be accessed at 3G speeds using 3G network or from any Wi-Fi hotspot.

Sanjay Jha, co-chief executive officer of Motorola and chief executive officer of Motorola Mobile Devices, commented, “We’re proud to work with Verizon Wireless and Google on the first smartphone to feature Android 2.0. Droid by Motorola delivers a rich consumer experience with warp-speed Web browsing, a mammoth screen, and Motorola’s expertise in design and voice quality. Combined with Android’s open, flexible graphical user interface and the power of Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, Droid is a smartphone that simply doesn’t compromise.”

The user can view the web, e-mail, Google Maps, videos and more in widescreen on a huge 3.7-inch high-resolution screen. The device features a width of 854 pixels to diminish the requirement for side-to-side panning and more than 400,000 pixels total. Users can run multiple applications simultaneously. Personalizing the handset is possible with the thousands of applications and hundreds of widgets available on Android Market. Super-speedy Google search along with voice-activated search is also feasible. Users who want more can simply type on the search bar on the home screen and the phone will also search content on the phone like apps and contacts.

The handset comes with a 5 megapixel camera along with dual-LED flash, AutoFocus and image stabilization. Users can also capture images in 16 million colors with DVD-quality video capture and playback. The pictures can be stored on the included 16GB memory card. Users can keep a tab on all their messages with a supported Gmail and Exchange e-mail. With the useful Android notification panel, they can go straight to the message or just disregard it, and get back to the job at hand. A smart dictionary learns as users type and mechanically incorporates their contacts.

The phone is claimed to be the first device with Google Maps Navigation, offering turn-by-turn voice guidance as a free feature of Google Maps. User can see live traffic, they can use Street View or satellite imagery to view their way, and get access to the most current maps and business information from Google Maps without ever updating their device.

YouTube is already pre-loaded in the handset. It functions with One-touch recording and playback from a homescreen widget or app, one-touch sharing with friends and the capability to view self-uploaded videos and high-resolution videos. In Google talk, users can switch between chats; search their chat history and preview pictures and videos sent by links. The calendar can be used to see who has R.S.V.P’d to meeting invitations. One can download latest tracks through the Amazon MP3 store. In the Verizon Wireless Visual Voice Mail, users can delete, reply and forward voice mail messages without having to listen to previous messages or voice instructions.

Verizon Wireless Communication Stores will offer Droid by Motorola starting November 6, 2009 onwards. The device can be purchased for $199.99 with a new two-year customer agreement following a $100 mail-in rebate. To acquire most from the Droid smartphone, customers can subscribe to the Nationwide voice plan and an Email and Web for Smartphone plan.
