Mobile apps, games market in India may hit the Rs 2700 crore mark by 2016

Mobile applications and games market is expanding with each passing day and we wouldn’t be surprised if it actually touches the Rs 2,700 crore milestone in India, as the Avendus Capital report suggests it will in the year 2016. The sudden rise in the number of people using smartphones and 3G data networks across the nation is one of the reasons why this market will see a boom.

As PTI reports, the digital content market is yet to take off and large-scale piracy is one of the reasons that has been hindering the sales. Caller ringback tones are probably the only things that people prefer to pay for when it comes to mobile content, as of now. The analysis in question has estimated the potential market for paid apps to hit the Rs 2000 crore mark by the aforementioned year.

Mobile Apps

What needs to be noted is that, Indian consumers focus more on free and advertisement-supported applications as well as games. Out of all the time spent on these utilities and mobile games across the world, as much as 40 percent is dedicated to the free ones and 10 percent is meant for mobile web.

The Avendus report estimates that the amount of time spent on ad-supported content will reduce to about 25 to 30 percent in the year 2016. Which means that about Rs 700 crores or at the most Rs 850 crores will be gathered as revenue from advertisements at the time. And as we already said, about Rs 2000 crores can be expected from paid apps. Thus, the total revenue by that year should be around Rs 2,700 crores.

Well, we will have to wait and watch whether the findings of the report will turn out to be true or not.
