The latest stories doing the rounds over the internet suggest that the freshly disclosed Microsoft Surface tablet may tag along Wi-Fi only, with no mobile network. The slate was unveiled just recently, though some of its specifications are still under wraps.
This speculation may remind us of the Google Nexus 7 tablet that is also on the verge of sailing the same boat. This appears to put the Apple iPad on a pedestal of sorts, considering that it offers LTE (not everywhere across the globe), 3G as well as Wi-Fi connectivity options.
The tidbit was dug up by Bloomberg which reported that people in the know about the tablet’s specs have hinted at the unavailability of network connectivity. It may simply proffer Wi-Fi network covering a short range, though the status could change in variants arriving at a later stage.
The news agency also revealed that the software giant’s tablet may go live later this year. The Redmond-based company seems to be tying up with Pegatron for manufacturing the slate. CNET has now got in touch with Microsoft with the intention of acquiring details.
The recently revealed Surface tablet will be out in 2 versions of Windows RT and Windows 8. Both will be accompanied by accessories like a type cover, a kickstand and a case. Setting the stage for accessing the to-be-released Windows platforms, the devices appear to carry some rather interesting specs.
Till then, fans can hope that this news is just a rumor and the Microsoft Surface tablet ships with both Wi-Fi and mobile network compatibility in place.
