Micromax Funbook for India runs the Ice Cream Sandwich platform

It looks like the HCL tablets already have competition in India in the form of the Android 4.0 based Micromax Funbook. Aimed at the youth of the country, the device acts as a computing platform meant for learning and can be employed for entertainment purposes as well, reveals the company.

About 1cm thick, the Funbook has been fitted with a 17.78cm capacitive screen and integrated with a 1.2GHz processor along with 512MB RAM. Supporting 1080p video playback, the device sports a 0.3MP VGA camera and an expansion slot for a microSD card of up to 32GB capacity to increase its 4GB onboard memory. It is drenched in shades of silver and black and includes learning material from brands like Universal tutorials, Everonn, Pearson, GK Publishers and more. It offers access to study materials of different courses comprising medical, engineering and MBA.

“Fun and education are two important elements of a youth’s life; they always try to balance between what they have to do and what they want to do. With the launch of Funbook, we are offering a smart solution to solve this dilemma, and we believe that Funbook will help create a balance between the two,” quoted Deepak Mehrotra, CEO, Micromax.

Besides thousands of applications from the Google Play Store, the Micromax Funbook offers BIGFlix in 9 languages, over 48 TV channels and a wide range of games through Indiagames. Needless to say, users can also enjoy music on this tablet. It is packaged along with carry case that doubles up as a car headrest, HDMI cable, wireless headset, USB cable and screen guard. A compatible keyboard will also be released in the near future.

The Micromax Funbook price and availability details are as follows – it can now be picked up from authorized retailers for Rs. 6,499. It provides 1GB of free download for the first two months.
