MediaTek MT6572 aims to enhance entry-level smartphones’ performance

Yesterday, MediaTek for the first time spoke of the MT6572 which is being crafted for the entry-level smartphone sector. And we believe it is only fair that the fabless semiconductor company pay an ounce of its attention towards this market which has fallen on the radar of various handset makers in recent times.

The manufacturer takes pride in revealing that there is no other dual core SoC apart from the one that’s being built in its foundries, to be equipped with Wi-Fi, FM, GPS as well as Bluetooth. This should contribute towards reducing the overall expenses incurred while constructing devices.

One of the key ingredients in the SoC is a Cortex A7 processor which can pick up a speed of 1.2GHz and has been engineered by employing the 28nm process. Said to be one fifth the size of a Cortex A8 CPU, the chipset in question is basically meant for low-budget and fully featured smartphones.

Its energy efficient nature has bought it the ticket to be a part of ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture, which can be seen in Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S4. Coming back to the topic at hand, the SoC comprises of its very own multi-mode Rel. 8 HSPA+/TD-SCDMA modem and 3D graphics. Handsets accommodating this platform should be able to support a 5MP camera with the capability of capturing pictures at 720p. Moreover, the screens of such phones will be able spew visuals at a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels.

The company is not just trying to cut expenses and make the processor available at a low amount, but its attempt to offer better quality components is also quite visible. A perfect example of this can be the SoC’s support for MiraVision which should only justify the manufacturer’s aim to make rich picture quality a possibility through devices packing the relevant platform.

With high-end smartphones exploring newer grounds, it’s but natural that the attributes that had once existed within them, will be pushed down to lower-end handsets. Adopting a similar state of mind, the company wishes to make dual core processors a norm in the entry-level smartphone market in the future.

The MediaTek MT6572 has already begun paving its way into multiple devices says the company. However, it has also stated that handsets gaining steam from this platform will not be emerging before the month of June.
