Deemed to be a significant transformation in the world of comics, the Marvel ReEvolution has unveiled the Marvel Infinite Comics and the Marvel AR app, its first two offerings. This entirely new suite comprising the aforementioned applications was announced at the ongoing SXSW Interactive Festival.

The Marvel Infinite Comics has been introduced as a new format altogether, which should further enhance the pleasure of comic book reading on gadgets like smartphones and tablets. It will launch on April 4, 2012 with Avengers vs. X-Men #1 Infinite as its first comic book offering. The storyline will see both these formidable super hero teams going to war on this new canvas.

“Marvel’s always led graphic fiction industry in digital media innovation and the Marvel ReEvolution is a quantum leap into the future of publishing,” commented Dan Buckley. Publisher and President of the Print, Animation and Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide. “We see print and digital product as complementary, not competitive—so we’ve made sure that not only do we have new digital content but also digital products that enhance the printed page. The release of Avengers vs. X-Men #1, the biggest story we’ve ever told, is the activation point for the re-evolution of comics as a whole.”

On the other hand, the company has also lifted the veil off the Marvel AR app which has been designed in collaboration with Aurasma. Devised for the Android and iOS mobile platforms, the software is meant to give direct access to exclusive content like new footage, behind the scenes, past events and messages from creators and more. Such information can be unlocked after the Marvel AR logo on the company’s select products is scanned in-app.

The Marvel Infinite Comics and the Marvel AR app, which are the initial elements of the Marvel ReEvolution, will see their respective commercial releases in April 2012.
