Loopt teams with AT&T to offer location service for iPhone

ATnT Loopt iPhone App Loopt along with AT&T introduces an innovative location based service for iPhone users who are always on the move. This unique app updates users’ location in real-time while they are bustling from one place to another.

The app supports location updating by means of its always-on location service even when users are not running the Loopt application, reports Engadget iMobile. It is said that the Loopt app is not operating in the background, and in fact it is working server-to-server.

Apparently, the app presents a map that shows the current location of user’s friends as well as some other location-based social networking features such as ‘who’s nearby list.’ It seems that Loopt carries advantage over its competitors Google Latitude Services and Foursquare that offer similar services. These services need to be manually activated, unlike the Loopt that automatically updates.

Initially, the Always-On Location Service will be offered to a limited number of Loopt users on a trial basis. About 5000 Loopt users can avail the service for free up to 14 days. After the trial period the service will be charged $3.99 per month. iPhone users can avail the service by visiting Loopt’s website.
