London Police introduces SMS service for Non-Emergency situations

Mobile Phone and UK Flag Taking advantage of the mobile phone technology, the London Police have introduced an interesting SMS service for their fellow citizens. The mobile phone users residing in London can contact the local police for a non-emergency situation via a SMS.

The newly introduced service is especially created for those people who have hearing or speech impediments. The service is very simple in use, just send a simple SMS with your name, location and with a brief idea on the situation to 07940 500 500.

Chief Inspector Anthony Cairney adds, “We hope that people will find this service useful, particularly those who have hearing or speech difficulties. People should find it a lot easier to use than typetalk and textphone services.”

Although the service is mainly set for non-emergency situations but it will also handle emergency situations as well. Once the police receives the message, the users will be acknowledged with a confirmation text message.

The SMS service is exclusively available only for the citizens of London. This new service is claimed to replace the existing typetalk and textphone service. The pricing details for the SMS service are still not available.
