The Limited Edition BlackBerry Z10 will be sent to 12,000 developers who participated in the making of BB10 apps, as a sign of gratitude by the Canadian company. The forms to avail the offer were made available before the unveiling of the regular version which launched on January 30.
The Limited Edition Z10 will be handed over in exchange for the Dev Alpha device that was given to coders as a testing tool. Programmers would have to fill in a form requesting for this variant and also fulfill certain criteria to attain it. Although the last date for submitting the application was January 21, it has now been extended to February 28.
The mobile weighs just a little over 137 grams and is pretty slim having a thickness of only 9mm. Except for the bright red exterior, the handset matches the specifications of the original version including the requirement of a micro SIM. The front panel encloses a 4.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and a 2MP lens. The 8MP rear camera comes with a range of performance enhancing features comprising of Time Shift mode, autofocus and 5x digital zoom for capturing photos as well as videos.
Equipped with the BB10 OS, this smartphone comes with improved BlackBerry services like Hub, Balance, Browser, Maps and World. On the inside, the phone is powered by a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor supported by 2GB of RAM. It has been endowed with 16GB of storage that can further be expanded up to 64GB through an external memory card. The 1800mAh capacity battery allows around 10 hours of talktime or approximately 13 days of standby time.
The Limited Edition BlackBerry Z10 will be shipped to developers 2 to 6 weeks after the Dev Alpha has been returned to the company. The exchange will be initiated only after qualification of the applicant has been confirmed by the manufacturer.
