LG Optimus One hits Indian market for Rs. 13,500

Indian consumers have yet another treat from LG to taste. The company has doffed the silk off its latest LG smartphone from the Optimus series. Dubbed LG Optimus One, this beauty is one of the first smartphones coming from this handset manufacturer. This handset has already made quite some noise in the international market for all the right reasons. It has been known as Optimus S, LG Vortex and Optimus T whilst it retailed through different network carriers in the U.S.

What’s more, in the first 40 days of its launch LG managed to sell one million units of this product. The enticing smartphone runs on the latest operating system from Google, the Android 2.2. It integrates a 3.2 inch wide HVGA touchscreen display. With the easy-to-operate user interface, it offers an assortment of multimedia options. The device lets users’ access smoother internet browsing, application pop-ups, web-page loading and multi-tasking.

Moon B Shin, Managing Director, LG Electronics India, asserted, “Smartphones are poised to drive the growth in the India mobile market in the coming years and LG’s focus on innovation based on thorough consumer research, places us squarely at the forefront of that evolution. 2011 will be aacceleration phase for LG Mobiles, and all are plans, investments are aligned towards taking 12-15% of market share in Smartphone segment. We have set aside 350 crores as marketing investment for 2011.Our focus in Smart phones would deliver the ultimate consumer experience. We are therefore pre embedding loads of applications, making phones ready to use with exposure to world of applications. We have identified Mobile Phones as a strategic growth engine category. Keeping this in mind we will increase the production capacity from 8 million to 15 million by next year at Pune plant. We also have an ambitious target of 80% revenue growth in mobile business by 2011”.

Vishal Chopra, Business Group Head, Mobile Communications, LGEIL said, “2011 will be an important year for us with respect to Smart Phones. Our focus would be to simplify Smart phones for consumers, give them experience on how applications can improve life. Simultaneously we are looking at expanding the retail presence by 25,000 retails and 500 LG exclusive LG mobile gallery. Next year we plan to launch 55 new models, out of which 40% will be Smartphones and our marketing investments would also be aligned accordingly.”

The LG Optimus One with Google comes with 40 preloaded applications. Dilettante photographers might enjoy the fact that it incorporates a 3 megapixel camera along with 2GB memory. The handset offers GPRS and EDGE connectivity. Those who love texting may welcome the integration of threaded messages.

The LG Optimus One can be procured from all retail outlets for Rs. 13,500. In addition to this device, the LG Optimus 7 operating on the much anticipated Windows Phone 7 is claimed to be coming soon by the company.
