LG introduces Application Store in Asia

LG logo LG Electronics will set up their own Application Store in Asia and offer numerous services in several Asia-Pacific countries. According to Fiercewireless, it is also known that the company will release a beta version of their online store offering improved mobile phone experience.

Customers will be offered an array of applications by the end of this year along with 100 other programs without any charge. The company as well as several content providers are constantly working on ways to deliver best quality applications through the store. Before the company presents the application for download, it will undergo severe quality tests to bring bug free operation to users.

“As we’ve announced earlier, LG is planning to invest heavily in the smartphone market going forward, with ten smartphones being introduced this year alone. As the trend has shown, the appeal of smartphones is in the diversity and usefulness of the applications. Opening our own Application Store will allow us to offer the best content and applications for our devices so that LG phone owners will get the best possible ownership experience,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Compan.

He further added, “It’s important to understand that unlike other mobile phone manufacturers, LG’s Application Store is not intended to be a new or separate business model. It’s an added-value service that comes with LG’s high-end phone and smartphone ownership. And unlike other mobile phone online stores, LG’s intention is not to censor the type of applications that are available to our customers but only to ensure that they meet the high standards for quality and compatibility.”

The LG Mobile Developer Network, a website specifically designed for third party software developers of LG mobile phones is also working together with the App store. This website comes with improved content and functionality. With this website, developers can develop and share widgets along with assessing applications through the Developer Lab (VDL) in addition to Over-The-Air (OTA) downloads.

Java SDK is supported by the website and VDL, OTA downloads will be supported for widgets by the end of this year. The date of introduction of the LG-GM730 overlaps with the Application Store’s beta launch.

Users can access the Application Store and download applications to a computer. They can also visit the shop virtually from the LG-GM730 by selecting the ‘Quick Key Box’ placed at the bottom of the home screen and then clicking on the Apple icon.
