Kindle Fire 2 release date to fall in Q3, enhanced display in the works

Kindle Fire 2

Before the end of 2012, we’re set to see a Kindle Fire 2, if the rumors are to be believed. And according to the story, one of the major changes expected in Amazon’s second attempt at an Android tablet is an improved display.

The current touchscreen in the Fire is a 7-inch multi-touch type display with IPS technology for better viewing angles. In terms of image quality, the screen offers 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. But AllThingsD insists that this aspect is expected to change in Amazon’s forthcoming iteration of the slate, going by the word from unnamed sources familiar with the company’s plans.

Apparently, the new tablet will be fitted with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution touchscreen. Even though it’s not a major enhancement as compared to what Apple did with the new iPad, the difference in picture sharpness should be visible to a certain extent. DisplayMate President, Raymond Soneira, explains that even a slight tweak in pixel density means a raise in the current 169ppi specification to 216ppi. That could be a 67% improvement in image clarity and crispness when it comes to total pixels.

And because the general expectations in tech world would mean fans will be rooting for a thinner Fire 2 with decent battery life, we hardly think Amazon would want to disappoint on these fronts. As per the report, the better display will not necessarily lead to a bulkier and less power-efficient successor. There’s nothing along the lines of the other features that could be packed into the slab.

So we’ll just have to wait a bit until Amazon decides to come clean on the Kindle Fire 2 price, release date and specifications.
