KDDI announces waterproof and solar-powered phone in Japan

KDDI Waterproof Phone Enjoy your conversation underwater with an all new mobile phone introduced in Japan by Sharp and KDDI. Touted to be the world’s first water-proof phone which consumes solar energy using the special solar panels. This is yet another phone in the line up of eco-friendly devices.

When exposed to sunlight for 10 minutes, this unique handset is capable of providing 2 hours of standby time and one minute of talktime. The phone comes with a battery that can be charged upto 80 percent using the solar energy. Both the solar panel and the phone are fully waterproof.

The company has not disclosed any information regarding its specifications or functions as yet. From the image, it seems to be a flip phone with an external display showing the time.

This unnamed handset will arrive in June. The pricing details of the phone are not yet announced.
