JIL widgets now supported by LG, RIM, Samsung and Sharp

With a clear objective to enable application developers to offer a wide range of mobile applications to millions of users, JIL declared that LG, RIM, Samsung and Sharp have agreed to support the JIL widget specification in future handsets from Q1 2010.

With JIL widget compliant handsets, developers can create innovative mobile applications. These applications can be offered to a user base of more than 1 billion, unified by member companies that include China Mobile, Softbank, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone across Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.

Users will benefit from several cutting-edge mobile applications on JIL compliant handsets. Although, several JIL compliant mobile phones have been released in few European countries and China, this announcement is a global adoption of the JIL widget standard by several handset manufacturers.

“The decision of LG, RIM, Samsung and Sharp to incorporate the JIL widget specifications in their future product roadmap is proof of the tremendous potential that JIL offers both to developers and customers,” said Peters Suh, JIL CEO. “All four companies are innovation leaders and this is another strong affirmation of both JIL strategy and its robust technical specifications.”

With a goal to develop new mobile technologies, applications and services, China Mobile, Softbank, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone established JIL in the year 2008. JIL’s main focus is to create a single global platform for developers to create beneficial mobile widgets. These innovative widgets are expected to enhance the mobile internet experience on various smartphones along with mid-cost and low-cost phones driven by different operating system and distributed via JIL operators’ applications stores.

To develop innovative applications for various devices, JIL has created a platform for mobile widgets that focus on mobile operators’ unique capabilities. With this platform, users are permitted access to a variety of advanced internet services.
