iPhone users take full advantage of in-flight web service

Gogo Logo Unlike the many iPhone users, others running different platforms seem to be unaware of the in-flight web service provided by Gogo. With the Android OS reigning over the smartphone market, the accounted number of devices using the service is only twelve percent whereas, the iPhone is accounted for seventy-five percent of total in-flight traffic.

Additionally, combining iPhone and iPod touch users, the total would rise up to eighty percent. Taking in account of other handsets which used the Gogo in-flight web service, the Blackberry would comprise six percent, while Windows and other devices fall into the remaining two percent. The aforementioned rates suggest that many users aren’t aware of the availability of the Gogo service, whilst iPhones and iPod touches dominate the air.

“Many smartphone users simply aren’t aware that you can turn your phone service off on a Gogo equipped plane, yet still access the Internet through a Wi-Fi enabled mobile device and surf the Web, send email and access most of the features of your smartphone aside from making a phone call. It’s clear that iPhone users are ahead of the curve in understanding those capabilities, but more and more people are starting to discover how to connect using their smartphone on a plane. As the number of smartphone users continues to skyrocket, we’d expect that the number of passengers using their mobile devices to access the Internet in air will also continue to grow,” said Ash ElDifrawi, chief marketing officer at Gogo.

Many reports state that traditional mobile phones are outnumbered with the increasing demand of smartphones in the market. Also, web access for most of these users is considered to be critical.

Currently the Gogo in-flight data-service is accessible on airlines such as Air Canada, Aid Tran, Alaska Air, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, United, U.S Airways and Virgin America.
