iPhone gets the official Onion App

The Onion Screenshot The Onion seems to have joined the application developers bandwagon by launching their official application for the iPhone. The application is being sponsored by Jack Link’s Beef Jerky as part of its advertising campaign to promote the brand. The application known as The Onion App will reach out to people with news updates, features, etc.

The application will include the Onion Radio News, Onion News Network video, sports, opinion editorials, statshots, infographics and more. Additionally, subscribers can check The Onion’s online archives and save news they find worthy for viewing later. Apparently, Onion is regarded as one of the finest news sources in America, and the application has been born out of pure customer demands.

Onion’s Web Editor, Baratunde Thurston said that, “Readers, listeners and viewers who rely on The Onion to present the news in the way that only The Onion can, have pleaded for an official app. Some have even gone as far as creating their own unauthorized Onion-related apps. No longer will Onion fans have to settle for information cobbled together by lesser, non-Onion news sources. They should feel free to delete all such apps immediately.”

Commenting on the decision to sponsor the application, Jeff LeFever, Director of Marketing, Jack Link’s Beef Jerky said that the ideology behind the brand of ‘Feed their wild side’ was in tune with the slightly irreverent and fun-loving aspect of The Onion. Moreover, the untamed spirit of the brand was a perfect match with that of The Onion.

Jack Link has plans to create many such applications in collaboration with The Onion. As of now, users can download this application for free from the iTunes App Store. Apart from releasing The Onion App, The Onion also has plans of launching other projects which will include an application for The Onion News Network video as well as an ‘Eye on America’ iTunes video playlist.
