iPad 2 At Meijer

The upcoming release of the rumored iPad 3 is having a seemingly adverse effect on its predecessor with a certain retailer offering the iPad 2 at a heavily slashed price. The Michigan-based supermarket chain, Meijer has announced its limited period sale wherein the tablet would be retailing for a $70 lesser rate than its original cost.

Meijer has disclosed in its weekly sale ad that the iPad 2 would be available for a price of $429 as opposed to the original $499. This online sale has been on since February 12 and will go on till February 18 as long as stocks last. AppleInsider reveals that according to another listing posted on the retailer’s website, those who haven’t managed to get their hands on the $429 priced Apple tablet online, could visit any Meijer store till February 25 for the same.

This online sale however will not include rain checks and substitutions. Besides the slate, there are also other Apple products being offered at slashed rates. These include the Smart Cover for iPad 2 which is priced at $35, that is $5 lesser than its official tag. Word has it that this move would soon be adopted by other retailers as well, as the iPad 3 launch date inches closer. As per widespread speculation, the successor device is scheduled to unveil around the first week of March.

The 16GB iPad 2 can now be bought online at Meijer’s website for a discounted price of $429 until February 18 or from stores till February 25.
